Question
What should I know about enabling / disabling bridge mode in the SVG2482AC Gateway?
Answer
By default, the SVG2482AC operates as a gateway, and provides Internet access for multiple devices (up to 253 devices), connecting to the SVG2482AC.  The SVG2482AC functions as a cable modem and wireless router keeping the devices in the home network hidden from the Internet.  In certain situations, it may be desired to disable the router function of the SVG2482AC, and have it operate as a modem only.  This can be accomplished by configuring the SVG2482AC for Bridge Mode.  When Bridge Mode is enabled, the firewalll, router and wireless functions are disabled.  Only one device directly connected to the SVG2482AC will have Internet access.  This document contains the following sections: This is an ideal setup when:
  • Adding a firewall, router or another NAT device to manage the home network
  • Hosting services or applications that can benefit from being directly accessible from the Internet
