Question
How do I can change the SBX-AC1200P to a wireless router?
Answer
The SBX-AC1200P is an Network Extender that allows data to be transmitted over power lines in your home.  It connects directly to any outlet in the home to extend and enhance network connectivity.  The Router mode is a feature where by the extender can be configured as wireless router.  

This document contains the following sections:

Requirements
  • Internet Service with a cable, DSL or satellite modem 
  • Wi-Fi cable modem or routers not present in the network 

    NOTE: This setup should not be performed if a Wi-Fi cable modem or router exists in the network.  Multiple router devices in a network can lead to connectivity issues.  Please continue to use the SBX-AC1200P as an extender.  

To Configure the SBX-AC1200P as a Wireless Router 

NOTE: Steps 2 - 12 (static IP address setup) are applicable on Windows 10, 8 & 7.  

  1. Connect a computer with the Ethernet cable or to the SBX-AC1200P default wireless network.  The default wireless name and password are located on the back panel of the SBX-AC1200P.

    NOTE: If the SBX-AC1200P is operating as a wireless router, client devices can only connect to the SBX-AC1200P default wireless network because the Ethernet port is used for connecting a modem device.  Connect the Wi-Fi client to the SBX-AC1200P default wireless network and click here to skip to step 13.
       
  2. Click the Window's Start button and type Network and Sharing Center in the Search box.
     
  3. Click on the Network and Sharing Center icon.  The Network and Sharing Center window will appear.

  4. On the Network and Sharing Center window, click the Change adapter settings link.  The Network Connections window will appear.

  5. On the Network Connections window, right-click on Local Area Connection then select Properties.  The Local Area Connection Properties window will appear.  

    NOTE: If the computer is connected wirelessly, right click on Wireless Network Connection then select Properties for Wireless Network Connection Properties window.

  6. On the Local Area Connection Properties window, select the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) then click the Properties button.  Make sure the box to the left is checked.  The Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties window will appear.

  7. In the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties window, capture the current IP and DNS addresses under the General tab for reference.  These settings will need to be restored after making changes in the SBX-AC1200P Web Manager.

  8. Select Use the Following IP address.
     
  9. Enter 192.168.100.253 in the IP Address field. 
     
  10. Enter 255.255.255.0 in the Subnet Mask field.
     
  11. Click the OK button.

  12. Click the Close button on the bottom of the Local Area Connection Properties window.

  13. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.  Enter http://192.168.100.254 into the address box, and press the Enter key.  The Login page appears.

    NOTE: If the SBX-AC1200P is operating as a wireless router, enter http://192.168.0.1 in the address box.  

     
  14. On the Login page, enter admin in the Username field.
     
  15. Enter password in the Password field.
     
  16. Click the Login button.  The Home page appears.

  17. Move the mouse-cursor over Basic on the main menu and click the Setup link on the sub-menu.   The Basic - Setup page will appear.

  18. On the Basic - Setup page, click the Gateway Mode drop-down menu and select Router.
  19. Click the Apply button.

    Right click on the image to save it to your computer.

     
  20. The Warning page appears.  Click the OK button to restart.

  21. The SBX-AC1200P will operate as a wireless router after the progress reaches 100%.

  22. The SBX-AC1200P Ethernet port becomes a WAN port.  Connect the Ethernet cable from the SBX-AC1200P's Ethernet port to a cable, DSL or Fiber modem device's the Ethernet port for Internet connection.   
     
  23. Connect client devices (PC, TV, Game Console, etc.) to the SBX-AC1200P default wireless network.  

    NOTE 1: The default wireless name and password is located on the back panel of the SBX-AC1200P.  

    NOTE 2: To access the Web Manager when the SBX-AC1200P is operating as wireless router, browse to http://192.168.0.1 with a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.

To Configure the SBX-AC1200P as a Wireless Extender 
  1. Connect a Wi-Fi client device, such as a laptop, smart phone or tablet, to the SBX-AC1200P default wireless network. 

    NOTE: The default wireless name and password is located on the back panel of the SBX-AC1200P.  

     
  2. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.  Enter http://192.168.0.1 into the address box and press the Enter key.  The Login page appears.
     
  3. On the Login page, enter admin in the Username field.
     
  4. Enter password in the Password field.
     
  5. Click the Login button.  The Home page appears.

    Right click on the image to save it to your computer.

     
  6. Move the mouse-cursor over Basic on the main menu and click the Setup link on the sub-menu.  The Basic - Setup page will appear.

  7. On the Basic - Setup page, click the Gateway Mode drop-down menu and select Router.
     
  8. Click the Apply button.  The SBX-AC1200P will restart and will operate as a wireless extender and Ethernet port becomes a LAN port.
