SBX-AC1200P: Firmware Upgrade

Question
How do I upgrade the firmware for the SBX-AC1200P?
Answer
Firmware is programming that is written into the device for it to function.  In some cases there may be a need to update or enhance features in order to keep the product up to date.  Before upgrading the firmware verify the current firmware in the SBX-AC1200P.  This document contains the manual setup for the following sections:  
Verify Current Firmware

NOTE: Steps 2 - 12 (static IP address setup) are applicable on Windows 10, 8 & 7.  
  1. Connect a computer with the Ethernet cable or to the SBX-AC1200P default wireless network.  The default wireless name and password are located on the back panel of the SBX-AC1200P.  

    NOTE: If the SBX-AC1200P is operating as a wireless router, client devices can only connect to the SBX-AC1200P default wireless network because the Ethernet port is used for connecting a modem device.  Connect the Wi-Fi client to the SBX-AC1200P default wireless network and click here to skip to step 13.
       
  2. Click the Window's Start button and type Network and Sharing Center in the Search box.
     
  3. Click on the Network and Sharing Center icon.  The Network and Sharing Center window will appear.

  4. On the Network and Sharing Center window, click the Change adapter settings link.  The Network Connections window will appear.

  5. On the Network Connections window, right-click on Local Area Connection then select Properties.  The Local Area Connection Properties window will appear.  

    NOTE: If the computer is connected wirelessly, right click on Wireless Network Connection then select Properties for Wireless Network Connection Properties window.

  6. On the Local Area Connection Properties window, select the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) then click the Properties button.  Make sure the box to the left is checked.  The Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties window will appear.

  7. In the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties window, capture the current IP and DNS addresses under the General tab for reference.  These settings will need to be restored after making changes in the SBX-AC1200P Web Manager.

  8. Select Use the Following IP address.
     
  9. Enter 192.168.100.253 in the IP Address field. 
     
  10. Enter 255.255.255.0 in the Subnet Mask field.
     
  11. Click the OK button.

  12. Click the Close button on the bottom of the Local Area Connection Properties window.

  13. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.  Enter http://192.168.100.254 into the address box, and press the Enter key.  The Login page will appear.

    NOTE: If the SBX-AC1200P is operating as a wireless router, enter http://192.168.0.1 in the address box.  

     
  14. On the Login page, enter admin in the Username field.
     
  15. Enter password in the Password field.
     
  16. Click the Login button.  The Home page will appear.

  17. Move the mouse-cursor over the Status tab and select the Product Information sub-link.  The Status - Product Information page appears.

  18. Verify the current firmware version as shown in the green box is up to date.  Proceed to the Download the Latest Firmware section to confirm the firmware.

    NOTE: If the current firmware in the SBX-AC1200P matches the latest one on the site, the unit is up to date. 

    Right click on the image to save it to your computer.

     
 
Download the Latest Firmware
  1. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari. Enter arris.com/selfhelp into the address box and press the Enter Key.  The Welcome to ARRIS Consumer Support page appears.
     
  2. On the Welcome to ARRIS Consumer Support page, place the mouse cursor over SURFboard Cable Modems and Gateways and then click on Go to Models box.
     
  3. Move the mouse cursor over the SBX-AC1200P product and then click on Details box.
     
  4.  Click on the Drivers and Firmware tab.

    Right click on the image to save it to your computer.

    NOTE: If the current firmware in the SBX-AC1200P matches the latest one on the site, the unit is up to date.

     
  5. Click the OK button on Select 'Save' when prompted. dialog box.
     
  6. Click the Save button on File Download dialog box.  The Save As window appears.
     
  7. Save in - Select Desktop in the pull-down menu.
     
  8. File name - Leave at default name SBXAC1200P-1.0.2-G00. 
     
  9. Save as type - Leave at default type.
     
  10. Click the Save button.
     
 
Upgrade Firmware
  1. Move the mouse-cursor over the Status on the main menu and click the Router Upgrade link on the sub-menu.  The Status - Router Upgrade page appears.

  2. On the Status - Router Upgrade page, click the Browse button.  The Choose File to Upload box appears. 

    Right click on the image to save it to your computer.

     
  3. Click on Desktop to select the firmware file SBXAC1200P-1.0.2-G00 
     
  4. Click the Open button.  The Utilities - Firmware Upgrade page appears.

  5. On the Utilities - Firmware Upgrade page, click the Upgrade button.  The Contine pop-up window appears.

  6. On the Continue pop-up window, click the OK button to continue with the firmware upgrade.

  7. The hour glass symbol appears below.​

    CAUTION: The router may be unresponsive to commands for 3 minutes.  Please do not turn off or reboot the router during this time.

  8. The router will begin updating the firmware.  Please allow up to few minutes for the router to update the firmware.

    WARNING: Do not interrupt or unplug the router, doing so could render the router inoperable. 

    Right click on the image to save it to your computer.

     
  9. On the Alert window, click the OK button to continue the firmware upgrade.

  10. Once the router completes the firmware upgrade the Login page appears.
