Question
How do I setup my SBX-AC1200P to use other DNS?
Answer
NOTE: The SBX-AC1200P operates as a wireless extender out of the box.  The Domain Name Server (DNS) feature is setup in the primary router that manages the home network.  If the SBX-AC1200P is operating as a wireless router, proceed with the instructions below to setup the DNS feature.

Domain Name Server (DNS) is a database that contains domain host names (e.g http://www.arris.com) which are linked to a specific IP address.  When accessing a website the computer uses DNS to retrieve the website's specific IP address.  Without DNS the computer could only access the specific IP address directly if known.  This document describes how to setup custom DNS addresses in the SBX-AC1200P.

CAUTION: By default, the SBX-AC1200P obtains the DNS addresses are obtained automatically from the service provider.  Internet connection maybe lost if the DNS addresses inputted in the SBX-AC1200P are not legitimate.

The following are examples of scenarios when DNS settings are customized:
  • Users may prefer to use public DNS addresses to improve web browsing experience.
  • Advanced users setup local DNS server in a home network to hide DNS requests.
