Question
How do I configure my SBR-AC1750 for a WPA-PSK wireless connection?
Answer

The SBR-AC1750 includes configuration options for the wireless LAN (WLAN).  WPA (WiFi Protected Access) - PSK (Pre Shared Key) provides the best data protection and access control.  The Primary Network is enabled and uses WPA-PSK encryption by default.

The SBR-AC1750 supports 2.4GHz and 5.0 GHz Wi-Fi networks simultaneously.  Each frequency has it's own SSID (Service Set Identification), which is the name given to the wireless network of the SBR-AC1750.  The 2.4 GHz network supports 802.11 b/g/n wireless clients, while the 5.0 GHz network supports 802.11 n/ac wireless clients.  802.11 n/ac devices will generally perform better in the 5GHz range.

This document describes how to configure the SBR-AC1750 to use WPA-PSK encryption.

NOTE: Older wireless client cards may not support WPA or WPA2 encryption methods.  If a wireless card is not compatible with WPA or WPA2, either the gateway will need to be configured to use WEP encryption, or the wireless card will need to be replaced with a newer card that is compatible with WPA or WPA2 encryption.

To Configure WPA-PSK

  1. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari. Enter http://192.168.0.1 into the address box, and press the Enter key.  The Login page appears.

NOTE: By default the LAN IP address is 192.168.0.1.  If the default address has been changed, enter the custom address in the address box.

Right click on the image to save it to your computer.

  2. On the Login page:
    a.   Enter password in the Password field.
    b.   Click the Login button.  The Home page appears.

Right click on the image to save it to your computer.

  3. On the Home page, click on Manage Wi-Fi Network.  The Wireless - Primary Network Settings page appears.

Right click on the image to save it to your computer.

  4. On the Wireless - Primary Network Settings page:
    a.   Choose the desired wireless frequency to modify (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz), as shown in the green box.
    b.   Enable Wireless - Leave at default, which is checked.
    c.   Wireless Network Name (SSID) - Enter the desired network name of choice, or leave at the current setting.
    d.   Broadcast Network Name (SSID) - Leave at default, which is checked.
    e.   Security Mode - Click the drop-down menu, and select WPA2-PSK + WPA-PSK.

NOTE: Select WPA-PSK for backward compatibility, WPA2-PSK + WPA-PSK for maximum security and interoperability.  In the example below, WPA2-PSK + WPA-PSK is selected.

    f.    Pre-Shared Key - Enter the desired PSK (pre-shared key) to use.  The PSK key must be 8 - 63 characters.
    g.   Click the Apply button.  The page will refresh.

NOTE: A reboot is not required for changes to take effect.

Right click on the image to save it to your computer.

The SBR-AC1750 is now configured to allow wireless client connections using WPA2-PSK + WPA-PSK encryption.

To make a connection, the wireless client must have WPA2-PSK or WPA2-PSK + WPA-PSK encryption enabled and have the same PSK encryption key as the SBR-AC1750 router.  For assistance with the wireless client:
